It’s my birthday!

Today is my 47th birthday!

This is my 5th birthday since being diagnosed with cancer and honestly today is both a day of celebration and a day of reflection.

The last five years have been hard. Every birthday that I celebrate is a blessing and yet I can’t help but to ask myself how many more birthdays will I get to celebrate.

When you live with cancer your mind is often stuck in between two realities. The reality that you’re still alive and the reality that you still have cancer.

Thankfully, I’m naturally wired to be an optimist. It’s just who I am. So when a birthday comes and my mind is trying to balance those two realities, the thing that tips the scales is my natural inclination to see the beauty in all things.

With that being said. I am extremely grateful to see another beautiful day, a day that I just happened to be born on 47 years ago. So Happy Birthday to me!
