How to create a cancer or chronic illness prayer support system online.
Over the last 3 years we have created a prayer support group that literally spans the globe and includes thousands of people. Here’s a few unedited thoughts about how we did it. (I’ll write more about this at a later time)
Think wide. Go for quantity. Use social media to expand base.
Information assists with intercession. Give as many details as possible about what you are facing
Consistent follow up and follow through. This includes social media. React to comments about prayer even if you just like the comments.
Periodical show your face. Pre-record or live stream video updates. Let people read your face and body language.
Periodically post written prayers so that people can prayer along with you using your words and your thoughts. Create a journal and repeat annually if desired.
Tell important people first before making public updates. Don’t catch family or friends by surprise.
Always be ready to clarify. If people seem confused about your status make sure to clear up any questions. You want people to know how you’re doing and not guess based on limited information.
Use humor. Don’t stop being yourself. Sickness isn’t all there is to you or your life. Share some smiles.
Include your family. Make sure that people are praying for your family and caregivers. They are vitally important.
Read and re-read comments for encouragement at least weekly. It will keep you motivated.
If you miss a day, give your self grace. People are still praying. Trust them. And trust God.
